We have had another fantastic fortnight of learning at Micklem. The weather has done it's best to stop us, but it can't keep us down for long! We are so excited that different learning opportunities, that support our curriculum learning, have still been able to happen. We have had Forest School sessions in and out of school, tag rugby festivals and (some) outdoor clubs as well. We are looking forward to continuing to support your child's learning both in and out of the classroom over this term, so please ensure that your child has the appropriate clothing for the dismal weather that we have been experiencing recently. Let's make sure that they get the most out of their learning!
We were very excited to host our first reading cafes of the year this week. This event gives parents/carers the opportunity to come into school and spend some time reading with their children, sharing books and promoting a love of reading (not to mention the refreshments). We had a wonderful turnout and a great time was had by all who attended. These events will be run termly so keep an eye out for information about the next opportunity and keep reading!
Year 1 went on a walk around our local area and made the most of the sunshine. They all had a great time!
Year 5 and 6 went to a tag rugby festival at Camelot Rugby Club. They went with the purpose of learning the rules and having fun. They had a great time...although I hear the walk back up the hill was hard work!
We are so excited to share with you the news that we have been awarded the Music Mark! This is to acknowledge schools that put the effort into valuing music and praising the leadership and planning of our music provision. This reflects the opportunities that we give all of our children to access music learning across the school, culminating in our annual Music Soiree! I'd like you to join me in saying a huge well done and thank you to Mr. Cuthbert, who drives our music offer and our class staff who ensure that our children can access this fantastic curriculum.
This year, we have introduced Class Dojo. A way of celebrating individuals and classes that are following our school rules of:
Be Kind.
Show Respect.
Aim High.
Children will be able to receive one or two points for these core values from any member of staff. We will keep an eye on which individuals, classes and house groups are being the kindest, most respectful and ambitious over the year. Below we have calculated the average points received by each House Group (this means that it is fair, even if a House Group has more children)!

Green House

Red House

Yellow House

Next week we will be participating in the NSPCC's Kindness Challenge, linking to our school rule of Be Kind. The aim of this is for schools and nurseries up and down the country to spread kindness in their school communities. We discussed ideas in assembly on Thursday such as: sharing a toy with a classmate in Reception, making a thank-you card or writing a letter for a teacher or friend, being kind to yourself by doing something you love, sitting next to a classmate you don't normally eat lunch with and offering to tidy up something that isn't your normal responsibility. Staff will be looking to give lots of Dojo points for children being extra kind throughout the week.

Learning of the Week
Every week, we celebrate extraordinary learning from two children in each class. It may be that they have pushed passed an obstacle in their learning; worked on their presentation; thought about how to help others amongst other things.
Our Learning of the Week for the last fortnight goes to:

Amalia for a really positive attitude towards SPAG and for showing a secure understanding of sentence structure, conjunctions and gerunds.

Well done to everyone who worked so hard this week, it is fantastic to see so many positive learning experiences!
Pupil Leadership
House Captains
Our House Captains have taken on their first challenge of the year. They met with our Lunchtime Play Leader staff this week to discuss how better to support children at lunchtime. They discussed different things including equipment, games, use of the shed and fundraising. They are interested in linking up with the PTA to support our playground offer. Watch this space to see what they have come up with.
